You Gave Me False Hope Adura Aloba Calls Out VDM

First it was the wife being allegedly accused of knowing the truth behind his death. Later it was the soapy crooner Naira Marley, and then Sam Larry. Zlatan recently got his own share of the trolls for staying silent over the matter.

Now it’s the brother. There have been lots of controversies since the death of one of Nigeria’s brightest musical talents, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

And this time, it’s another showdown between the singer’s brother and controversial online activist VeryDarkMan (VDM).

Adura Aloba, Mohbad’s younger brother, has openly threatened legal action against Martins Otse, popularly known as VDM, for allegedly raising false hopes, damaging his reputation, and setting the public against him through misleading commentary.

In an Instagram story shared on Saturday, August 2, Adura said VDM’s public promise to expose the real cause of Mohbad’s death gave him hope, hope that’s now turned into frustration and suspicion.

VDM Accused of Taking Sides

Adura didn’t stop there. He also accused VDM of “flipping sides” in favor of Naira Marley, the embattled ex-label boss many fans once believed played a role in Mohbad’s struggles before his death.

This follows a controversial video VDM released earlier in which he dissected the contradictory accounts of Mohbad’s final moments, as told separately by Adura and Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi.

The clip brought up online suspicions and painted Adura as evasive, prompting the backlash he now claims has harmed him deeply.

“You can’t raise dust, stir public anger, then walk away like nothing happened,” Adura added. “If you claim to know what happened to my brother, say it, or prepare to explain it in court.”

Nigerians React: “No be Adura Type This Thing”

As expected, Adura’s post was followed by mixed reactions online. Some Nigerians are backing him, urging VDM to either release concrete evidence or stop adding confusion to the already-sensitive case.

Instagram user @anthoniasanusi said, “He has to reveal it to us. The WhatsApp message must continue. Don’t stop giving us the details.”

Meanwhile, others are condemning him and even wondering how someone who struggles with speaking English would type so coherently.

@UJ on X added, “This brother knows what happened to Mohbad. Expecting someone who wasn’t in the house to come say something that he wasn’t there when it happened? You were there and you never said a word on what happened the day and y’all started pushing up an agenda against Naira Marley”.

Naira Marley on the other side should have been brought to book for bullying before Mohbad died if only you people used this same energy when he was

The Group Chat Drama

In addition to the controversies making the rounds, VDM has exposed a group chat supposedly created to seek justice for Mohbad.

The WhatsApp group titled “Concerned Citizens” allegedly features top celebrities and influencers like Iyabo Ojo, Samklef, Tonto Dikeh, Jigan, Oba Ksolo, Aloma, and Gistlover, among others.

According to activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), the group was initially formed to seek justice but later focused on pinning blame on Naira Marley despite his absence from the country at the time.

VDM claimed his call for a DNA test on Mohbad’s son also led to outrage within the group, leading to smear campaigns, leaked nudes, and accusations that he was working for the government or Marley’s camp.

Screenshots from the chat revealed attempts to strategize his arrest, while Samklef confirmed the group’s existence but denied any foul play, labeling VDM’s claims as manipulation

Who Killed Mohbad?

This latest clash adds another chapter to the long, painful saga of Mohbad’s mysterious death in September 2023. The singer’s passing has led to a cry for justice that never ends. The path has been marred with finger-pointing, contradicting testimonies, and social media theatrics.

From leaked chats and candlelight processions to diss tracks and court threats, the public remains emotionally invested in the story of a 27-year-old artist whose life ended too soon.

While Adura insists he wants the truth and accountability, VDM still holds the attention of many not just for what he’s said, but for what he hasn’t said yet, especially as regards the group chat drama. Till now we’re still yet to get an answer to the question – Who killed Mohbad?
