Ubi Franklin Denies Watch Theft Rumor at Chivido 25

The Rumor that Sparked Controversy

Rumours went off yesterday over reports circulating that music executive Ubi Franklin had allegedly stolen a luxury wristwatch at Davido’s wedding event in Miami. Ubi, in response, forcefully denied the claim, emphasizing that the allegations were both false and misleading.

Ubi Franklin’s Response

On his X account, Ubi explained that during the wedding, Benny, a jeweler named approached him with an offer to sell a particular wristwatch. However, after examining the item, he  declined to make a purchase. According to him, “After reviewing the item and confirming its previous ownership, I decided not to purchase it in order to avoid any potential complications.”

Much later during the church service, another wristwatch, which was purchased and fully paid for by Ubi, was handed to him by Benny’s brother. However, Ubi said, “Given the busy circumstances surrounding the wedding, I was in possession of both wristwatches and wore the one he sent to me through his brother”.

Explanation of the Watch Exchange with Jeweler

His hardship was compounded by having to leave Miami immediately after the ceremony in order to attend to his sister’s funeral arrangements. While in flight, he received a message from Benny inquiring about the second watch. Ubi reiterated that he was not a thief and that he upheld integrity; he also noted that Benny had already denounced the rumors earlier that day.

Davido Steps In

Davido, the groom and Ubi’s close friend, stepped in soon after, sharing Ubi’s statement on his own social media with a firm message: “You owe nobody any explanation… fools.”

Public Reactions

Expectedly, bloggers and social media users were quick to react, some questioning how Ubi ended up with both watches in his possession, despite not initially intending to purchase one. Others criticized the rapid spread of the accusation before confirmation.

Throughout the ordeal, Ubi framed his response as his final word on the matter, saying, “I want to state clearly: I am not a thief. I have never stolen from anyone in my life”. He further described the period as “an extremely difficult and sensitive time” for him and his family.

Final Word from Ubi Franklin

Ubi Franklin stated this clarification as his final word on the matter. He acknowledged the emotional toll on his family and thanked well-wishers for their support, emphasizing his choice not to dwell further on what he described as a “completely false and misleading” narrative.

The allegations came at a time when Davido’s wedding to Chioma Rowland was dominating Nigerian and diaspora entertainment news. The lavish Miami ceremony attracted several high-profile guests, including big names from the music and entertainment industry, just like JP2025

With both Franklin’s and Benny’s statements now public, the incident appears to have been settled. But, it remains a talking point on social media.
