Oriyomi Hamzat Lifts Ban on Marlian Records Music

This week, popular Ibadan broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat and owner of Agidigbo fm, publicly admitted he was wrong about Naira Marley and lifted the two-year ban on Marlian Records’ music at Agidigbo FM. Back in September 2024, Nigeria mourned the painful passing of Mohbad, a rising star and former signee of Marlian Records. His death was surrounded by controversy, with heavy accusations and public suspicion pointing in the direction of his former boss, Naira Marley.
Why Agidigbo FM Banned Marlian Songs After Mohbad’s Death
Oriyomi Hamzat, known for his outspoken stance on social issues, responded by banning all Marlian Records songs from Agidigbo FM. At the time, the decision resonated with many Nigerians who felt Marley had questions to answer. For two years, the ban stood as a symbolic protest against the death of Mohbad. But with recent developments reportedly clearing Marley of direct involvement in Mohbad’s death, Hamzat has decided to reverse course.
The Lagos State Police Command had opened an investigation into Mohbad’s death last year, exhuming his body for autopsy and questioning several individuals, including Naira Marley and Sam Larry. During this period, content creator and activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), became one of the loudest voices demanding justice for Mohbad. He consistently shared updates, challenged authorities to act transparently, and criticized those spreading unverified claims. Recently he gathered the information that seemed to clear Naira Marley’s name.
Following this development, Oriyomi Hamzat admitted he had judged Marley harshly.
“I was wrong to have thought otherwise about him,” he said. “As a result, his songs and those from Marlian Records will once again be played on Agidigbo FM.”
The apology was unexpected. It not only reopened debates around Mohbad’s death but also triggered reactions about how quickly public figures in Nigeria switch their stance once narratives change.
Public Backlash and Mixed Reactions Online
While Naira Marley continues to rebuild his image after one of the most damaging scandals of his career, the Lagos Police investigation remains open and fans are still demanding full clarity on what exactly caused the singer’s death.
