Chart Masters, a music statistics monitoring platform, recently revealed the world’s artists’ monthly earnings on Spotify. It wasn’t surprising that Nigerian singer Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has been crowned Africa’s biggest earner on Spotify, with a $1 million monthly income.

Music, A Lucrative Business
Undoubtedly, the music industry is highly profitable, attracting young talent seeking financial stability.
There are several ways musicians in today’s world can earn from music. They can earn through tours (sales of tickets and merchandise), royalties from streaming platforms or public performances, and sometimes through fans and crowdfunding. These opportunities have made music a viable career path for many.
However, in all ramifications, there are indicators that Wizkid is the highest-earning artist in Nigeria. Wizkid ’s minimum fee for live performances in Nigeria is at least 100 million naira. To perform during a royal wedding at the private residence of Umaid Bhawan Palace in India, it was gathered that the artist earned 50 million Rupees equivalent to 245.9 million naira. Wizkid is one of the hottest music acts in Nigeria and Africa at large, hence, it is no surprise that he charges the highest for shows.
This new achievement of being the highest-earning African artist on Spotify cements his position as one of the continent’s most successful musical exports.
The data, which also unveiled the earnings of other global artists, showed that Wizkid led a list of Africa’s top earners, with fellow Nigerians dominating the top 10. The only non-Nigerian on the list is South Africa’s rising star, Tyla.
