President Tinubu Appoints Rinsola Abiola & Nasir Bala To Leadership Positions

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved two key appointments in the area of citizenship and leadership development, naming Rinsola Abiola as the new Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC) and Nasir Bala Aminu Ja’oji as Senior Special Assistant on Citizenship and Leadership.
The announcement, made on Monday, August 11, 2025, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, signals the administration’s intention to strengthen civic education, leadership training, and national orientation initiatives.
Rinsola Abiola: Continuing a Legacy of Public Service
Rinsola Abiola, daughter of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola—Nigeria’s acclaimed winner of the annulled 1993 presidential election—brings a wealth of experience in governance, youth advocacy, and strategic communication.
Before this appointment, she served as Senior Special Assistant to the President, where she worked on policy communications and engagement strategies. She is also recognised for her work in promoting women’s participation in politics and championing youth inclusion in governance.
Her new role as Director-General of CLTC will see her oversee programmes aimed at fostering leadership skills, patriotism, and national unity among Nigerians, particularly young people.
Nasir Bala Aminu Ja’oji: A Voice for Youth and Civic Engagement
Also appointed is Nasir Bala Aminu Ja’oji, who will serve as Senior Special Assistant on Citizenship and Leadership. Bala has previously held positions such as Special Adviser on Mobilisation to the Governor of Kano State and a member of the Governing Council of the Coordinated Arewa Youth Groups.
Known for his grassroots mobilisation skills, he has been a strong advocate for youth and women’s empowerment, as well as civic participation. In his new capacity, Bala is expected to collaborate closely with relevant ministries, agencies, and civil society organisations to develop initiatives that strengthen civic responsibility and leadership culture across the country.
Presidency’s Position
According to Onanuga’s statement, these appointments were based on merit, competence, and proven track records of public service. The Presidency emphasised that both appointees have demonstrated commitment to the ideals of citizenship, leadership, and national development.
Public Reaction
The appointments have generated mixed reactions. Supporters have praised the choices as a blend of youth energy, political experience, and advocacy expertise, noting that both Abiola and Bala have made notable contributions to national discourse. Others, however, have raised concerns about perceived political connections influencing high-level postings, a recurring topic in Nigeria’s governance space.
Looking Ahead
With Nigeria facing challenges of national cohesion, civic education gaps, and declining public trust in leadership, the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre is positioned to play a critical role. Stakeholders will be watching closely to see how Abiola and Bala translate their backgrounds and vision into tangible results that foster unity, patriotism, and responsible leadership across the nation.
