Political Twist in Rivers: Fubara Meets Wike With Governors Present — Ndukwe

In a major development that could reshape the political future of Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reportedly met with his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a bid to end their long-running feud.

Political analyst Obiarukwe Ndukwe revealed the meeting during an interview with TVC News, describing it as a coordinated peace effort involving top-ranking political figures from across Nigeria. According to Ndukwe, Fubara was not alone — he was accompanied by the Governors of Ebonyi and Ogun States, as well as former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba.

“They took him to Wike’s house,” Ndukwe stated. “When he got in, he walked straight into Wike’s living room — a familiar place. That tells you something about their history.”

The high-level visit is being viewed as a possible turning point in the political crisis that has gripped Rivers State. Tensions escalated to a national level when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state on March 18, 2025, citing threats to governance and public order.

The involvement of heavyweight political figures adds weight to the reconciliation effort, suggesting concern at the federal and regional levels about the instability in Rivers. The meeting took place at Wike’s private residence and, according to insiders, was aimed at restoring calm and finding common ground between the two powerful figures.

Observers note that Fubara’s decision to personally reach out — rather than continue the battle through legal or political proxies — signals a shift in strategy. The move may open the door to renewed political cooperation and could help stabilize Rivers State’s fragile leadership structure.

While it remains unclear whether the truce will hold, the meeting marks the most serious attempt yet to resolve the power struggle that has defined Rivers politics in recent years. With the state still under emergency measures, the stakes could not be higher.
