DJ Cuppy Fires Back at Trolls Over Marriage Pressure

Nigerian disc jockey Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has had enough of the constant marriage pressure and age-shaming. The billionaire heiress, who has built a name for herself in the music industry, did not hold back as she clapped back at critics questioning why she is still unmarried at 32.

‘If I’m Old, Then What Are People in Their 40s?’

Cuppy, known for her jovial personality and luxurious lifestyle, took to X to express her frustration. “I am 32 years old, and some of you people are calling me old. If that is the case, what are we calling people in their 40s? Prehistoric? Fossilized? Museum exhibits? Nawa,” she tweeted.

Her comment quickly went viral, with many weighing in on the conversation. Some fans sympathized with her, noting the double standards in how men and women are treated regarding age and marriage. Others maintained that she should have settled down by now.

This backlash is nothing new for Cuppy, whose love life has been a frequent topic of discussion among fans and netizens.

Cuppy’s romantic history has been well-documented, often making headlines due to her high-profile partners. One of her most publicized relationships was with British boxer Ryan Taylor. The couple shocked fans in November 2022 when Taylor proposed after only a brief courtship. Their whirlwind romance, however, ended in July 2023, barely seven months later. Neither party disclosed the exact reason for the split, but rumors swirled about compatibility issues and differing life goals.

Before Ryan Taylor, Cuppy had a history of dating successful men across different industries. She was once linked to Nigerian footballer Victor Anichebe. Their relationship was well-publicized, with the pair often sharing moments on social media. However, long-distance challenges and personal differences led to their eventual breakup. Cuppy later revealed in an interview that the split was amicable, and they remained friends.

Another significant name tied to Cuppy was Asa Asika, a renowned music executive and manager of Afrobeats star Davido. Their relationship appeared solid for a while, with the couple frequently spotted together at events. However, they eventually parted ways, reportedly due to their demanding careers. Cuppy once hinted that she was the one who ended things, admitting she sometimes struggles with balancing love and ambition.

‘My Ideal Man Must Be Tall and a Banker’

Despite her past relationships, Cuppy remains hopeful about finding the right partner. In February 2025, she confidently declared that it would be her last Valentine’s Day as a single woman.

Over the years, she has expressed her preference for a specific type of man. In a previous interview, she revealed, “My ideal man must be a 6-footer and a banker.” While some saw this as a lighthearted remark, others speculated that her high standards might be contributing to her prolonged singleness.

Her latest social media outburst triggered a wave of mixed reactions. Some fans defended her, pointing out the societal hypocrisy regarding age and marriage. One user commented, “It’s surprising how quickly people label a 32-year-old woman old but call a 32-year-old man young.” Another added, “Age is nothing but a mindset.”

However, others continued to pressure her. One critic wrote, “Cuppy, you don due for marriage” Some even accused her of feeding into negativity by responding to trolls instead of ignoring them.

One comment from the controversial Daniel Regha  particularly stood out, calling her out on unfulfilled promises. “Cuppy, you always let people get under your skin with these talks. Focus on what really matters, like the promises you made years ago to help students through the Cuppy Foundation.”

DJ Cuppy has made it clear that she will not succumb to societal pressure. While her love life remains a hot topic, she continues to thrive in her career as a DJ, philanthropist, and entrepreneur.
