The Edo State House of Assembly just had a shake-up, and it’s not just political analysts paying attention. When news broke that Natasha Osawaru lost her leadership seat, social media lit up with interesting commentaries.
Osawaru, a first-term lawmaker and rising political figure, came into national limelight not just through her political work but also for her romantic ties with Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face, a Nigerian music legend with a massive fan base. Their relationship, while kept relatively private, has occasionally surfaced on social media.
Hon. Natasha Osawaru Irobosa was removed from her position as Deputy Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly following a change of power. The shake-up follows a shift in the Assembly’s balance of power, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) gaining the majority after four lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defected. The power swing led to a swift leadership reshuffle, with PDP figures losing key positions.
Hon. Osawaru, who represents Egor constituency, was among three PDP lawmakers ousted from leadership roles. Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian (Majority Leader, Ovia North-East I) and Hon. Yekini Idaiye (Chief Whip, Akoko-Edo I) were also removed.
In their place, APC lawmakers were installed. Hon. Ibhamawu Jonathan Aigbokhan (Esan West) was named Majority Leader. Hon. Addeh Emakhu Isibor (Esan North-East I) was appointed Deputy Majority Leader, and Hon. Lecky Hussein Mustapha (Etsako West I) became the new Chief Whip.
The appointments came after the APC state leadership sent a formal nomination letter to the Speaker of the House, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku. The letter, signed by acting state chairman Jarret Tenebe and party secretary Lawrence Okah, referenced a prior communication notifying the Speaker of the APC’s new majority status. In other news iNaijanow recently shared a post on Kiss Daniel latest sensational release.
“We hereby forward to you the party’s nomination of principal officers’ position in the House,” the letter read in part.
While the leadership change saw PDP members lose significant ground, Speaker Agbebaku and Deputy Speaker Maria Edeko, both of the PDP, retained their seats, at least for now.
Agbebaku acknowledged that the Speaker and Deputy Speaker roles remain vulnerable, especially amid ongoing realignments within the House. “This is politics,” he told fellow lawmakers, noting that the PDP would soon bring forward its own list of nominees for principal officer positions. “Nothing is guaranteed.”
One unexpected twist in the reshuffle involved Hon. Richard Edosa (Oredo West). Initially named Deputy Chief Whip, his appointment was voided as the position doesn’t officially exist within the Assembly’s structure.
The leadership changes come at a politically sensitive moment for the state, where party allegiances remain unpredictable. Natasha Osawaru’s removal continues to attract attention outside political circles, thanks to her high-profile relationship with 2Face. While some critics dismiss the celebrity angle as a distraction, others argue her public profile put an extra spotlight on the shake-up.
Political analysts suggest the APC’s regional spread of appointments with the new Majority Leader and Deputy from Edo Central and the Chief Whip from Edo North reflects a calculated move to consolidate influence across zones ahead of future electoral contests.
As the PDP prepares to respond and possibly reposition, Edo State’s political stage remains tense, with the prospect of further shifts in leadership still very much in play.
