Finding Me Premieres on Prime Video, See Other Anticipated Nollywood Films of 2024

Nollywood juggernaut, Funke Akindele has announced the release of her latest production, “Finding Me”. The movie, which was preceded by the film producer’s dynamic marketing efforts, premiered on Amazon Prime on Sunday, March 16. Earlier in 2024, Akindele had made a creative reveal of actors for the new film.  Not surprisingly, the cast is a star-studded one, packed with a list of veterans and young Nollywood stars. Dele Odule, Shaffy Bello, Tina Mba, Sharon Ooja, Cute Abiola and Dakore Egbuson-Akande are only a few of the familiar faces that the movie brings to the screens.

With the new film, Funke Akindele once again showcases her versatility and artistic prowess by being its writer, director and producer. Her track record of success as an excellent entertainer has carved Akindele a place in the top 1% of Nollywood producers. Recently in 2024, she released a film as a spinoff from the fan-favourite Jenifa series. It featured Folarin Falana, also known as Falz, in lead character alongside the producer herself. Upon its release, the Lagos-born entertainer once again replicated her box-office success by hitting 1 billion naira.

Her 2023 production, A Tribe Called Judah conveniently also sits on top as one of the highest grossing movie in Nigeria, followed by her Battle on Buka Street from the same year. Akindele has had quite the run since her rookie days on I Need To Know to becoming Nigeria’s box office queen. However, beyond the figures, this new movie also seems to come with a compelling message that could attract viewers. Funke, speaking about the highly anticipated movie describes it as “not just a film”, but her “heart beating on screen”. Away from the usual, the award-winning writer considers it to be a story of self-discovery, coupled with transformation and resilience.

Given her previous success with the Nigerian audience, achieving such a feat with Finding Me may not be unprecedented. The big question is “will the filmmaker break yet another of her records”?. Only time will tell.

More than before, Nigerian producers are serving movie lovers with quality productions. Finding Me is only one out of other highly anticipated movies of the year, from Nigeria’s brilliant filmmakers.
