BNXN Drops Long-Awaited Sophomore Album ‘CAPTAIN’ with Star-Studded Features

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation BNXN just made good on months of anticipation with the release of his second studio album, CAPTAIN. The 16-track project, which landed on July 3, 2025, is already making notable waves across the music scene, and for good reason.

Since he burst into the mainstream, BNXN has proven himself as one of Afrobeats’ most recognisable voices. His sound is a combo of catchy melodies and raw emotion, a combo that has won him awards, millions of fans, and a seat at the table of artists redefining Nigerian music.

On CAPTAIN, BNXN doubles down on that winning formula while pushing into new sonic territory. The album shines with collaborations from some of Afrobeats’ most amazing stars, including Seyi Vibez, Victony, FOLA, and the legendary Soweto Gospel Choir.

In a heartfelt note to fans, BNXN described CAPTAIN as his most honest body of work yet. “This album represents who I am right now and everything I’ve been through to get here,” he said. “It’s the most honest I’ve ever been in my music. I want my fans to feel every high and every low. This is my story, the story of the captain.”

From the jump, the album sets a reflective tone with the opening track I Alone. BNXN looks inward, unpacking the struggles that come with fame and the sacrifices he’s made on his journey. It’s a raw intro that pulls listeners in and sets the stage for what’s to come.

CAPTAIN then launches into standout collaborations like Set Up featuring street-hop king Seyi Vibez, and Cough Syrup where Victony brings his signature flair. Fans have already singled out Fi Kan We Kan with Rema as one to watch, a record that promises to dominate party playlists for months.

Aside from the collaboration with the big names in the industry, BNXN uses CAPTAIN to experiment with new sounds and cross genres. Tracks like Totori and Cutesy flirt with pop, dancehall. The collaboration with Soweto Gospel Choir on In Jesus Name closes the album on an uplifting note, mixing traditional African choral elements with BNXN’s smooth vocals.

For the production, BNXN assembled a dream team. Names like Jiggy, Vampire Craze, Sbthaproducer, BlaiseBeatz, Rymez, Young Soul, SB, Kel P, Synx, Tuzi, Kdagreat, Gemini Major, Semzi, Cesar, and Enta all brought their distinct flavours to the table. The result is a collection of beats that stay true to Afrobeats’ pulsating energy while giving BNXN plenty of room to flex his versatility.

BNXN didn’t just drop CAPTAIN out of nowhere. He’s been laying the groundwork for months with singles like Phenomena, Very Soon featuring FOLA, and the viral Cutesy. Each track gave fans a taste of what was coming, a deeper, more mature BNXN who’s willing to share both the wins and the losses.

His rise has been meteoric since bagging the coveted Next Rated prize at the 15th Headies, a moment that cemented his status as a major player in the Nigerian music industry. His debut album Sincerely, BNXN set the bar high, but CAPTAIN shows he’s not afraid to raise it even higher.

Industry insiders say CAPTAIN could be a defining moment for BNXN. While his earlier projects focused on cementing his place in Afrobeats, this album shows he’s ready to chart his own course, lead new trends, and collaborate in unexpected ways.

With fans across Nigeria and beyond already streaming CAPTAIN on repeat, it’s clear BNXN’s story as ‘the captain’ is just beginning.
