Access Bank Staff Detained Over Restroom Video Recordings

In August 2017, Access Bank addressed an incident where pornographic content appeared on a screen at its UNILAG branch.

The bank clarified that the content was accessed by a customer using an in-branch tablet, which was intended to enhance customer experience. The bank expressed regret over the incident and stated that measures were being taken to prevent future occurrences.

In July 2019, a video surfaced online showing two unidentified staff members at Access Bank’s University of Lagos branch engaging in intimate activities after work hours. The incident was recorded by nearby residents and shared on social media, leading to widespread reactions and discussions about workplace conduct and privacy.

In April 2025, another scandal rocked Access Bank’s reputation, involving Stephen Ifeanyichukwu Ejezie, a former Quality Assurance Specialist at the bank’s contact centre in Oniru, Lagos State.

According to investigative reports, Ejezie was caught secretly recording female colleagues in the restroom around 1:30 a.m. A female staff member, while taking a bath at the office restroom, noticed a phone camera hidden and recording her. Upon raising an alarm, Ejezie was discovered hiding in a toilet cubicle nearby.

Further investigations revealed that this was not an isolated incident. Following his arrest, authorities found more than 400 video recordings on his devices, comprising footage of both male and female colleagues.

It was later discovered that Ejezie had allegedly been selling these videos online through platforms such as OnlyFans and Telegram, with reported buyers including individuals from outside Nigeria.

Ejezie, who joined Access Bank in February 2023 and was promoted to Quality Assurance Specialist in October of the same year, had cultivated a reputation among his colleagues as a courteous and diligent worker — making the revelations even more shocking.

Despite the gravity of the incident, workers at the contact centre expressed concern that the bank appeared to prioritize its corporate image over the pursuit of justice for the victims. Sources revealed that although Ejezie was initially arrested, he was soon released, and the bank’s management has been largely silent about pressing charges or offering support to affected staff members.

The incident has also led to new internal policies at Access Bank’s contact centre, including a ban on staff sleeping overnight at the premises — a common practice due to the centre’s shift-based operations. However, rather than providing reassurance, many employees feel the new measures signal an attempt to suppress the scandal rather than address the trauma it has caused.

Several affected staff members remain fearful that their naked images, now beyond their control, could resurface online in the future, jeopardizing their careers and personal lives. With no formal support system or assurance of justice, many are left feeling abandoned by the very institution they served.

As of the time of reporting, Access Bank has not issued an official statement addressing the incident.
