Lagos is set to host the 2025 edition of Nigeria’s most prestigious music awards, the Headies Awards. The Headies is coming back to Nigeria. The organizers will host the Awards on April 4. Ayo Animashaun, the founder of Smooth Productions made this known at the Headies ‘Big Announcement’ event on January 28th. This historic comeback to home country is happening five years after the 14th awards ceremony was held in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos. The half-decade hiatus from the country occurred because of a major change in location in 2023. The 2024 edition was hosted in Atlanta, Georgia. For the big reveal, high-profile entertainers and media personalities graced the venue of the event, Cube 65, VI on Tuesday night.
Anticipation is at its peak as this new edition promises new, impactful initiatives targeted at celebrating the originality of Nigerian talent. The dynamism and creativity of our music artists have made Nigerian sounds become a global phenomenon, producing young superstars that are dominating the international music scenes. Hence, this move to celebrate Nigerian talent in the 2025 edition of the Headies is commendable.
In his speech to the audience, Animashaun stated “This year’s edition is packed with an extraordinary lineup of events, culminating in a week-long celebration of the industry’s growth and artistic ingenuity.”
Almost two decades after its establishment in March 2006, the Headies has been largely successful in being a benchmark for acknowledging the exceptional artists who have now evolved into global superstars. Winning the highly-coveted plaque has become a defining moment for artists in their careers. Likened to America’s GRAMMY Awards, Nigeria’s Headies is one of Africa’s most recognized awarding institutions. Also, as Nigeria’s Afrobeats artists have continued to make waves as global stars, 2025 will reinforce the country’s position as the heart of African music.
As announced, the main event is scheduled for April 5. However, given that it is a week-long celebration, the event will begin on March 29th with a series of parties for key stakeholders and award nominees. Still, that isn’t all! As part of their visionary plans for the annual music event, the organizers have introduced more ingenious ways to make the Headies eventful. This includes the incorporation of The Headies Festival into its plans. This festival will feature a series of activities which will also celebrate the best of entertainment and our culture.
In previous editions, the show has seen the likes of Darey Art Alade, D’ Banj, Dakore, Banky W, Kemi Adetiba Bovi, Nancy Isime, and Osas Ighodaro climb the stage to host the prestigious ceremony. For 2025, the hosts and deserving nominees of the awards have not been announced yet. However, viewers can prepare to watch the historic event live on HipTv. Following the 17th edition which will happen this April, the 18th edition has already been scheduled for December 2025. From all indications, it is about to be an eventful year in the Nigerian music space, and you don’t want to miss out. Catch all the fun and exciting updates here.
