Ose Anenih Resigns from PDP, Cites Personal Reasons
Abuja, Nigeria – Ose Anenih, son of late elder statesman and former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, has formally resigned from the PDP. His decision marks a significant development within the party, especially in Edo State, where the Anenih family has long held political influence.
In a letter dated August 18, 2025, and addressed to the chairman of his ward in Uromi, Edo State, Ose announced his departure. He explained that after a period of deep personal reflection, he chose to step back from partisan politics in order to focus more on his family, professional responsibilities, and civic engagements.
“I have decided to resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party. This decision comes after careful consideration of my personal priorities at this stage of my life. It is not a repudiation of my belief in Nigeria’s democracy, but rather a necessary step to allow me concentrate on my family, business, and broader civic duties,” he wrote.
A Familiar Face in Edo Politics
Ose Anenih has been active in Nigerian politics for over a decade. He contested for the House of Representatives seat for the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency and was once a youth favorite in Uromi. In September 2024, he also served as the Director of Research and Strategy for the PDP during the Edo governorship election.
Although he did not always secure electoral victories, Ose’s campaigns were widely regarded as issue-based, youthful, and reform-driven, appealing to a new generation of voters in Edo.
Civic and Professional Engagement
Beyond partisan politics, Ose has made his mark as a public affairs commentator, free speech advocate, and businessman. He founded The Arts and Civics Table (TACT), which introduced the Nigerian Satire Festival, the first of its kind in the country. He also co-owns a private design-and-build construction company and mentors young Nigerians through civic initiatives.
Reaction to His Exit
His resignation has drawn mixed reactions. While some PDP loyalists in Edo described it as a loss for the party, others believe Ose’s decision reflects the broader frustrations of young politicians in Nigeria’s political space.
Party insiders in Uromi acknowledged his contributions but expressed hope that he may one day return. A PDP ward official, speaking off record, said: “Ose has always been committed to the party, but we understand his reasons. The door remains open.”
Looking Ahead
Although he has stepped away from partisan politics, Ose emphasized that he remains committed to Nigeria’s democratic growth. Political observers believe his civic activism and intellectual engagement may continue to influence conversations around governance, even outside the structures of the PDP.
His exit also underscores a broader trend of political realignment within Edo State ahead of future elections, raising questions about how PDP will manage internal discontent and retain its base.
For now, Ose Anenih says he is choosing family and civic duty over partisan loyalty—a decision many Nigerians, particularly young professionals, may find relatable.
