Bimbo Akintola’s role as ‘Inspector Mo’ is still making waves across social media, and netizens obviously can’t get enough of the funny ‘crazy wig’. The veteran actor has never hit and missed a character and this recent one is yet another proof of her legendary artistry. Away from her on-screen work, Akintola gets real about her personal life in a recent interview with Pulse Nigeria, where she touched on her singleness and childlessness in her mid-50s.

At 52 years old, the actress candidly shared, “I’m childless and single, unfortunately,” emphasizing that neither was by choice. She revealed that she had once found the man she believed could be “the one,” only for heartbreak to intervene. He passed away, and no one since has matched that connection. “I haven’t found the person I would spend the rest of my life with. I did once, but he passed away,” she admitted, adding that she can’t bring herself to “live a lie” .

Reflecting on marriage’s deeper meaning, Bimbo described it as sacred, something to be done in a house of worship, surrounded by loved ones. But she insisted that honesty and lifelong commitment are non-negotiable. “I want everything to be in truthfulness. I want to be true to myself and to God,” she said, noting she would still be open to marrying even in her late 70s if she finds that ‘forever’ connection.

Bimbo also urged against settling out of pressure to conform, highlighting that not everyone is on the same destiny path. Marriage, she said, is “the hardest institution” and one she’s not willing to experience without conviction . Having once described herself as “too old to ignore red flags,” she noted, “I’m not going to force myself into marriage just so the world can say, ‘Oh, she’s finally done it.’” .

Beyond her reflections on love and commitment, Akintola has always engaged audiences with powerful performances in recent film roles. In late 2023, she starred in the football-themed drama When Love Strikes, an Inkblot Productions release that tells the story of a young footballer torn between sporting passion and family responsibility. Earlier in 2024, she appeared in Beast of Two Worlds (Ajakaju), playing Queen Abiade in a gripping thriller exploring royal lineage and societal conflict . She also featured in “Higher Crime”, a socially conscious drama tackling issues of sexual assault and justice, portraying the wife of a prominent philanthropist enmeshed in a deeply emotional legal battle .

Further diversifying her impressive portfolio, Akintola lent her voice to the character Iyabo Bozimo in Ladybuckit and the Motley Mopsters, Nigeria’s first feature-length animation, slated for December release. Additionally, she played a meaningful role in Freedom Way, a hard-hitting action-drama that premiered at TIFF 2024 and slammed political oppression and police brutality head-on .

Through her honesty, Bimbo Akintola stands as both inspiration and comfort for those walking life similarly.  As Inspector Mo continues to captivate Netflix viewers, her personal story resonates even more, reminding us all that true fulfillment comes not from societal dictates, but from personal decision and staying true to oneself.
