Reality TV Star Tacha Says She Plans To Venture into Politics Soon

Anita Natasha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, the bold and outspoken alumna of BBNaija, recently shared her interest in running for political office. In an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Tacha explained why she’s considering politics.
She pointed to the glaring contrast between Rivers State, which is her birth home, and fast-developing cities like Lagos and Abuja. She stated,“When I look at other states like Abuja and Lagos, and I see how far they’ve come, and with the potential Rivers State has, they’re not trying to exploit it. It’s just very disappointing because there are so many youths, so many talents there, so many things that if the government can see light into, a lot can happen.”
The TV personality said that Rivers is rich in youthful energy and talent but it’s largely underutilized by its government. The announcement comes as the Rivers State native expressed deep concern over the leadership gap in her home region, and has sparked public debate over celebrity activism turning into governance.
She also made clear that this isn’t a fleeting dream, stating a commitment to something that she is currently working on, and will share when it’s 70% ready. After encouraging Nigerians to register to vote in 2023, she’s now ready to take the leap herself. This pivot from pushing for participation to becoming a contender marks a new phase in her public life.
Tacha has always been notably vocal about civic and social issues. Recently, during political upheaval in Rivers State in March 2025, she criticized both state leadership and fellow celebrities for silence, insisting she had spoken up more than most natives of the state.
Even though she is now based in the UK, having relocated in late 2024 citing poor influencer pay in Nigeria, Tacha remains deeply tied to her roots. It’s obvious that her move hasn’t diminished her online presence or her community ties. If anything, it has helped her see more of what she calls systemic neglect back home.
While she didn’t state a specific political office, her political interests seem rooted in transformation, not optics. As she said: “It does not make sense granting interviews… talking about the government without being involved,” hinting at a hands-on approach to reform rather than commentary.
Her interview with Ebuka on Rubbin’ Minds also included other aspects like exploring other ventures, including an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most makeup applications in 24 hours, targeting 150 participants.
