Tory Lanez Attacked in Prison: 14 Stab Wounds Reported

Rapper Tory Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, was recently involved in an incident at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, where he is currently serving a 10-year sentence.

On Monday, May 12, 2025, at approximately 7:20 a.m., Lanez was attacked in a housing unit at the prison. While the exact nature of the attack was not immediately disclosed by authorities, a message posted on Lanez’s official Instagram account later that evening provided a graphic account, stating that he was stabbed 14 times. The post detailed seven wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face. It further claimed that both of his lungs had collapsed, initially requiring a breathing apparatus, but that he was now breathing on his own and in good spirits.

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed the attack and stated that staff immediately responded, provided medical aid, and called 911. Lanez was then transported to an outside medical facility for further treatment. An investigation into the incident has been launched by the prison’s investigative unit and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.

This incident occurred while Lanez is serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of hip-hop artist Megan Thee Stallion (Megan Pete). In December 2022, he was convicted on three felony counts:

  •  Assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
  •  Having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
  •  Discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

Megan Thee Stallion testified during the trial that Lanez shot at the back of her feet and shouted for her to dance as she walked away from an SUV in July 2020, following a party at Kylie Jenner’s home in the Hollywood Hills. She underwent surgery to remove bullet fragments from her feet.

Lanez’s sentencing took place in August 2023, after his motion for a new trial was denied in May 2023. His defense attorneys have stated their intention to appeal the conviction.

Following the news of the attack, the hashtag #FreeTory began trending on X (formerly Twitter), indicating support for the incarcerated rapper.

This recent incident adds another layer to the already highly publicized and controversial case involving Tory Lanez and Megan Thee Stallion, which has sparked discussions about sexism in the rap industry, the protection of Black women, and online toxicity.
