Wizkid Proudly Endorses Son Champz Music in Viral Basketball Interview

There’s a new Starboy in town and this one’s just 14. Champz Balogun, the first son of Afrobeats icon Wizkid, has launched his debut EP to roaring success, already crossing 500,000 Spotify streams. In a viral basketball interview, Wizkid broke his usual silence to acknowledge the young artist: “We love him, man. He’s my kid.” And just like that, the next chapter of the Starboy legacy began.

From Courtside to Center Stage

The clip of the interview quickly went viral across X and TikTok, with fans praising the singer’s calm pride and his son’s raw potential. “Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” –crown’s touch

Indeed, Champz (born Boluwatife Balogun) has taken a refreshingly independent path to music. Despite being the son of one of Africa’s biggest global stars, the 14-year-old has been building his identity quietly, without relying on his father’s overwhelming fame.

Interestingly, Wizkid and Champz don’t even follow each other on social media, a detail that fans often debate. Many interpret it as a deliberate move by Wizkid to allow his son to grow organically, free from the shadow of his superstar father’s online presence. In other news, iNaijanow shared a story on Asake’s record breaking performance at the Red Bull Symphonic.

A Starboy Legacy in the Making

The debut EP, Champz, features Afrobeats, drill, and mellow R&B rhythms, showing off the teenager’s versatility and awareness of contemporary sound. While much of the production carries Starboy’s sonic polish, it’s clear that Champz’s voice and lyrics reflect a fresh, Gen Z flair rather than a copy of Wizkid’s signature style.

Tracks like “Level Up” and “Outside” have already begun trending on TikTok, with dance challenges and reaction videos pushing the project’s reach beyond Nigeria. On Apple Music Nigeria, the EP entered the Top 20 Albums chart within 72 hours of release, an impressive feat for a debut artist of his age.

The Next Chapter for the Balogun Dynasty

As Champz continues to make waves, attention is now turning to what comes next, live performances, collaborations, and, perhaps eventually, a Starboy mentorship series that brings the father-son duo together on stage.

But for now, Wizkid seems content to watch from the sidelines, allowing his son’s talent to do the talking. His three-word response, “We love him, man”  says it all: quiet pride, deep confidence, and the patience of a father who knows that greatness doesn’t need to be rushed.
