Multichoice Nigeria has announced a price hike for its DStv and GOtv packages. The new prices, which take effect on March 1, 2025, have been met with widespread criticism from Nigerians who are already grappling with a high cost of living. Their motto “Enriching Lives” no longer seems to stand as they’re now making life harder for their customers.

According to Multichoice Nigeria, the price increase is necessary to keep up with the rising cost of doing business in the country. The company cited the depreciation of the naira and high inflation as major factors contributing to the increase.

The price hike affects all DStv and GOtv packages, with some subscribers facing increases of up to 25%. The new prices are as follows:

  • DStv Compact: Increasing from ₦15,700 to ₦19,000 (25% increase)
  • DStv Compact Plus: Rising from ₦25,000 to ₦30,000 (20% increase)
  • DStv Premium: Jumping from ₦37,000 to ₦44,500 (20% increase)
  • GOtv Jinja: Increasing from ₦3,600 to ₦3,900
  • GOtv Plus: Rising from ₦4,850 to ₦5,800
  • GOtv Max: Jumping from ₦7,200 to ₦8,500
  • GOtv Supa: Increasing from ₦9,600 to ₦11,400
  • GOtv Supa Plus: Rising from ₦15,700 to ₦16,800
Multichoice Nigeria price hike

The price hike has been met with widespread criticism from Nigerians, many of whom are already struggling to make ends meet. The increase is likely to affect millions of subscribers who rely on DStv and GOtv for entertainment and information.

“This is a slap in the face for Nigerians,” said one subscriber. “We are already struggling to pay our bills, and now Multichoice is increasing the price of their services. It’s just not fair.”

The price hike is also likely to affect the competitiveness of Multichoice Nigeria in the pay-TV market. Other providers, such as StarTimes and TStv, may see this as an opportunity to gain market share by offering more affordable packages.

In response to the criticism, Multichoice Nigeria has emphasized the need for the price increase to ensure the sustainability of its business. The company has also promised to continue investing in local content and improving its services to subscribers.

However, for many Nigerians, the price hike is a bitter pill to swallow. As the cost of living continues to rise, it remains to be seen how Multichoice Nigeria will balance its business needs with the needs of its subscribers.
