The Federal Government has launched a major digital learning programme designed to transform access to education for millions of Nigerian children. The initiative, known as Inspire Live(s) Online Real-Time Classes, delivers live, interactive lessons to classrooms and homes across the country. The Ministry of Education describes it as a “milestone for equitable learning.”
The development was announced in a statement on Tuesday and signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo. The ministry said the programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its focus on expanding quality education and reducing learning poverty nationwide.
A Response to Persistent Challenges in Nigeria’s Education System
The Inspire Live(s) programme is designed to tackle long-standing structural issues that have weakened Nigeria’s education system for decades. These include the persistent shortage of qualified teachers, especially in rural communities, inconsistent instructional quality, outdated learning resources, and frequent disruptions to schooling caused by insecurity, strikes, and natural disasters.
Nigeria currently faces an estimated 250,000 teacher shortfall at the basic education level, according to UNESCO projections, while millions of learners, particularly in the northern region experience fragmented access to consistent classroom teaching. The ministry said the programme “democratises access to quality education and ensures that no child is left behind regardless of location or circumstance,” noting that real-time virtual learning gives students the opportunity to be taught by master educators irrespective of where they live. In other news, iNaijanow shared a story on Atiku Abubakar’s rejection of Xpress payment for tax collection.
How the Programme Works
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, confirmed that full implementation has begun nationwide. According to him, the rollout is expected to gradually cover Primary 1 through Senior Secondary 3 as infrastructure improves. At present, the Inspire platform streams classes for Junior and Senior Secondary School (JSS and SSS) learners. Lessons are delivered Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., using Cisco Webex, a global enterprise-grade virtual learning technology. The teachers leading the online sessions are described as “certified master teachers” trained to deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned instruction across multiple subjects.

For Junior Secondary School (JSS) learners, classes are currently available in:
- Basic Science

States Directed to Position Schools for Participation
To ensure effective nationwide coverage, the Federal Government has directed all state Commissioners for Education to take immediate action. States must:
- Appoint a State Focal Officer to coordinate Inspire Live(s) activities.
- Circulate programme information to all public and private school principals.
- Equip designated schools with basic ICT tools and stable internet connectivity.
- Facilitate registration strictly through school principals and Inspire support channels.
The ministry stressed that the programme is not limited to government-owned institutions. “Inspire Live(s) is open to all public and private schools in the country,” the statement said, noting that broad participation is key to closing Nigeria’s learning gap.
A New Phase in Nigeria’s Digital Learning Journey
This marks one of the most ambitious attempts yet at nationwide e-learning by the Federal Government. Previous initiatives, such as the COVID-19 emergency broadcast lessons of 2020 and early virtual learning pilots under the Universal Basic Education Commission were limited by infrastructure gaps and inconsistent implementation.
With the new Inspire Live(s) platform, the ministry says Nigeria is “entering a new era of technology-driven education,” promising greater consistency, better instructional quality, and improved learning outcomes. As the programme rolls out, education stakeholders will be watching closely to see whether Nigeria can overcome challenges of connectivity, electricity, and affordability. These are critical factors that will determine how far Inspire Live(s) can go in bridging the country’s enormous education divide.
