Tems Drops Surprise EP Love Is a Kingdom

Most musicians follow the organic path, dropping teasers before the main deal. Tems comes in like she owns the room and now she is back with a banger. In the early hours of Friday, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer shocked fans by releasing a brand-new EP  titled, Love Is a Kingdom, a seven-track project with no teasers, snippets, or social-media buildup. It’s her first solo body of work since her 2024 debut album, Born in the Wild.

Released under Since ’93 and RCA Records, the EP is short, just under 20 minutes, but emotionally dense. It features I’m Not Sure, Big Daddy, Lagos Love, Mine, What You Need, and Is There a Reason. In other news, iNaijanow shared a story on Davido’s moment of silence for Nigeria at Atlanta show.

A Journey Through Love, Power, and Reflection

According to press notes, Love Is a Kingdom is Tems exploring “love, power, and spiritual clarity.” And it feels like that right from the first track. The energy is soft, atmospheric, and soaked in the emotional depth she’s known for. Tems wrote and produced most of the songs herself, continuing her tradition of staying in full creative control of her work.

‘Big Daddy’ is Already a Fan Favourite

The standout track so far is “Big Daddy”. It’s Tems at her most honest, calling out an unreliable partner with lyrics that feel like a late-night voice note you were never brave enough to send:

“Where were you when there was no one around? Where were you when I needed someone down?

What were you doing when nobody gave a damn?”

The song expresses vulnerability with a groove you can’t ignore.

A Surprise Drop During a Big Year

The EP arrives in a year where Tems has been everywhere, festivals, international collaborations, and a growing global fanbase. Yet she’s been quietly missing from the solo-music scene. Since Born in the Wild, she has kept fans guessing about her next move. This surprise drop answers that question clearly: she’s been working. The no-announcement rollout also fits Tems perfectly. She’s always preferred letting the music speak without noise, hype, or countdowns.

A Short EP With a Big Message

While Love Is a Kingdom is brief, it feels like a fresh chapter. The themes are deeper. The production is cleaner. The lyrics feels surreal . And Tems sounds more sure of herself than ever.

This EP might be a bridge to her next album or simply a gift to fans. The details are still unknown. However, Tems has reminded everyone why she remains one of the most captivating voices to come out of Africa, quiet, powerful, and hard to imitate.
