Ignored for Six Months: Yemi Ayebo Breaks Silence on Olamide and ‘Yemi My Lover’

Yemi Ayebo Says Olamide Ignored Him For Six Months Over ‘’Yemi My Lover”

Olamide’s self-titled 11th studio album has brought him back into the mainstream media as a King in Afrobeats. However, that is not the only reason why his name is trending today.

Nollywood veteran, Yemi Ayebo has called the street pop lord out for not acknowledging his calls after using the title of his 1993 classic, “Yemi My Lover” name as a song title.

The popular singer made this revelation during a recent interview with Akin ‘Mrlilgaga’ Abolade. This was in reference to Olamide’s 2013 single, “Yemi My Lover” off his Headies award winning album, Baddest Guy Ever Liveth.

Yemi Ayebo shared his excitement about his song being used by Olamide, but also Davido and some skitmakers. According to the thespian, it was evidence that his name is blessed by God.

Speaking on his six-month quest to speak with Olamide, Ayebo noted that the question of settling and compensation by Olamide for using his name had been inspired by famous Fuji singer, Pasuma.

In a bid to connect both entertainers, Pasuma had initiated a call and Olamide had requested to speak with Mr. Yemi. Sharing the details of the exchange and its aftermath, Yemi Ayebo said,

Olamide told Pasuma to give me the phone so he could speak with me. That was the first time we spoke and he told me to collect his number from Pasuma and call him. Pasuma gave me his number and I called Olamide for more than six months, he didn’t pick my calls, I messaged him and he didn’t reply”.

While the YBNL CEO himself hasn’t responded, this recent news has attracted some reactions on social media. While some consider it no big deal and regard the veteran singer as being “entitled”, others have endeavoured to explain Yemi Ayebo’s claims as being unentitled, while pointing out Pasuma’s influence in the initial request for compensation.

This isn’t the first time an old-song reference has stirred up drama between Nigerian singers. In 2017, late singer Victor Ojiafo had accused Simi and Jaywon of remixing Joromi, his 1965 classic without informing him.

Recently, Portable was in the news for being arrested by Osupa after he defamed the latter for taking his “Fuji Shakushaku” single down over copyright infringement.

Who is Yemi Ayebo Solomon?

Yemi Ayebo is a veteran actor and filmmaker. The thespian’s love classic, “Yemi My Lover” remains a love classic and earned him a household name across Nigeria.

His era of incorporating musical storytelling into his movies makes him a trailblazer, since the days of Adelove.  While he may not be as active on the big screen, Yemi Ayebo remains a respected veteran in Nollywood, particularly among Yoruba movie lovers.
