Nasboi Embarks on 36-Day Kneeling Tour Across Nigeria to Honor Davido
When Nasboi announced that he would embark on a 36-day nationwide ’kneeling’ exercise to have Davido give him a verse, you must have thought that he was joking. Well, with the “Umbrella” hit singer already on his third stage, it’s clear as day that he does mean business. This is yet another proof of Nasboi’s determination to hit a bigger mark in his career this year.
The 33-year old entertainer, who launched his skitmaking career in 2019 had gained widespread attention for his parody videos of Davido. Nasboi has shared his reasons for mimicking Davido in his comedy videos. He stated, “I started mimicking Davido because I wanted to get his attention for my music; it wasn’t because of comedy; I just wanted Davido to get to know me; it had nothing to do with skitmaking”.
Now, a few years and a myriad of successful songs later, Nasboi has embarked on a bolder move to get Davido’s attention with hopes of getting a collaboration with the A-list star. Recently, Davido released his fifth studio album, 5ive and it drew a flurry of reviews from critics.
Where is Nasboi From?
Nasboi, whose real name Lawal Mike Balogun Nasiru hails from Odo, Otin in Osun State. However, he grew up in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. While Nasboi is primarily Yoruba, he’s actually also of Urhobo heritage through his mother, who is from Delta.
When Did Nasboi Start Singing?
Nasboi’s unconventional rise in music is arguably one of the most interesting transitions in the industry. The release of his first release and collab song, Umbrella, with Wande Coal was the first knowledge that many fans had about Nasboi’s musical journey. However, Nasboi stated that he started singing in 2006.
According to him, he got signed to Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, where in the early years of his career. However, the deal was over by 2017, after which he ventured into photography, then skit-making in 2019.
How Many Artists Has Nasboi Featured?
The song, Umbrella which became an instant hit, and trended on social media with the Umbrella challenge was a catalyst to the mainstream recognition that Nasboi has enjoyed through his musical career. Since then, the skitmaker turned popular singer has gone on to release other tracks like Small Money and Lover Boy, among others.
His debut EP, was released “In Nasboi I Trust (I.N.I.T)” in September 2024. The E.P featured some of Afrobeats best, including 2Baba and Falz on Ashewo, Chike on Could This Be Love, Pheelz on My Love, Joeboy on Confession, and Wande Coal.
Now, the Yoruba-Urhobo entertainer is set to add another big name to his list, hence his quest to get Davido’s attention for a collaboration. The kneeling exercise has begun already, starting in his and Davido’s state of origin, Osun State. How long can he go? How long would it take him to get a response from Nigeria’s ‘001’?
