It has come to the attention of the public that rumors have been circulating about the passing of the legendary Juju musician, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. These false reports, which gained traction on social media platforms, have caused concern and prompted an outpouring of premature tributes from fans and well-wishers.
However, the 83-year-old music icon has swiftly and emphatically debunked these claims, assuring everyone that he is alive, healthy, and in good spirits. In a video released on Tuesday morning, April 22, 2025, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey appeared energetic and vibrant, directly addressing the rumors with a musical performance.
Singing in a medley of Yoruba, English, and Pidgin, he declared, “Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. Satan, you don lose o, Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka. Na lie lie you dey talk, you don pafuka.” This translates to a powerful message affirming his vitality and dismissing the death rumors as lies orchestrated by negative forces.
Following his musical rebuttal, the revered musician made a clear statement to his fans and the general public. He stated, “It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written.” This declaration underscores his strong faith and conviction that his life’s journey is still ongoing according to divine will.
Adding further clarity, Chief Obey’s personal assistant, Tope Olukole, had already dismissed the baseless claims in an interview with TVC on Monday evening. Olukole affirmed, “Let’s set the record straight: Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and thriving! He recently celebrated a joyous occasion — the 50th birthday of his second child’s spouse. Rumours of his passing are baseless and entirely unfounded. We’re glad to see him active and well.”
It is worth noting that this is not the first time Ebenezer Obey has had to address such rumors. In July 2020, he similarly debunked false reports of his demise during an Instagram live session with Dele Momodu, stating emphatically that it was not yet his time and that he still had God’s purpose to fulfill.
The recent hoax comes just weeks after the legendary musician celebrated his 83rd birthday, further highlighting his continued presence and activity. Despite his age, Ebenezer Obey remains a significant figure in Nigerian music and culture.
The spread of such fake news underscores the need for caution and verification of information circulating on social media. Fans and the public can be reassured that the Chief Commander is still with us, his musical legacy enduring.
