World Cancer Day 2025: United By Unique Aims To Better Cancer Care

World Cancer Day

The world today, February 4, 2025, marks World Cancer Day. The program is an initiative of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) that started in 2000 to raise awareness of cancer and get increased support. This year’s theme is United by Unique. It focuses on several unique perspectives and how people-centered cancer care is important. According to the campaign,

“Every experience with cancer is unique and it will take all of us, united, to create a world where we look beyond the disease and see the person before the patient. This World Cancer Day, let’s come together to rewrite the future of cancer care – one where the needs of people and communities come first.”

The “United by Unique” campaign, launched by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), seeks to create a world where cancer patients get the help they deserve. The campaign’s slogan highlights that every individual has unique stories and circumstances that need to be heard and addressed.

Key Highlights of the Campaign

  • Personalized Care:  Treat people and not the disease. The campaign aims at ensuring healthcare sees cancer patients and their unique circumstances instead of lumping them together as victims of the disease.
  • Calls to Involved Authorities: The campaign hopes to be a united voice to ask the government and institutions with the power to facilitate personal care by taking the necessary actions.
  •  Share Your Story: United by Unique urges everyone to share their stories to inspire and support others.
  • Get Involved: The World Cancer Day campaign also encourages everyone to take action. Whether it is a small donation or a fundraiser for those in need, the initiative calls for us to strive to create a change.

The United by Unique is a three-year campaign that aims to explore people-centered care and how humans can make a difference.  Cancer Day is to push the narrative that compassionate and personalized care still matters and works.

The slogan “United by Unique” hopes to depict that all cancer victims have unique stories, needs, and perspectives. The healthcare system must consider the unique circumstances when offering necessary personal care while everyone comes together and unites intending to take action against cancer.

Sophie Opdyke, Senior Vice President, Global Oncology Marketing, MSD said,

“Every one of us is united by a shared vision to give all cancer patients more — more ways to treat their cancer, more quality in their lives, more time. MSD’s unwavering commitment is what we believe will bring us closer to our goal of bringing life to more patients with cancer.”

As Cary Adams, CEO of UICC, notes, “On World Cancer Day, we come together to mark a day of unity, action, and hope. The ‘United by Unique’ theme places people at the center of care and their stories at the heart of the conversation”
